So, other than oldsinner, how many of you actually know how to

a. Overhaul an injection pump
B. rebuild an injector
c. rebuild a 617 engine
D. pop test an injector
E. tell me how WVO will make your car last longer

From the standpoint of an honest MB technician, Vegetable oil is a threat to your diesel engine's mechanical integrity.

Yes to A through D. I've been a certified master tech & master machinist for over 35 years and I believe all our moderators hold the same certs.

E. I never heard anyone claim WVO made their engine last longer. Look up some of my past responses on the subject and you will find that NO ONE has ever given proof of engine damage due to the use of PROPERLY filtered and waterless WVO.

You say that you are a professional mechanic and that WVO harms these engines.

Prove it. Be sure to post your revelations on the WVO/SVO sticky on this forum.

The leader in conversions insist on new rapeseed oil.So even mixing at 50% saves alot of money.I burn peanut oil, which is supposed to be better.

leaving the state...

As a rule, for anyone who asked, most engines I've tested that have been run on WVO for awhile suffred from oil sludge accumulation and compression readings, on non-turbo models usually, between 280PSI and 300 PSI...a little low in my book.

What the WVO community would actually like to see is scientific data, however imperfect. And statements that "I tested some cars run on WVO and they had low compression" do not constitute data. I'm not sure why this old thread was revived, but perhaps as an effort to see if results about the negative effects of WVO are forthcoming. So, rebuild 60 617 engines, or whatever your testbed, randomly divide into thirds, and run 20 on WVO, run 20 on good diesel, and don't run the other 20 on anything. Then measure tolerances after 100K mile equivalent and publish the results. With a modest grant from the Feds all this could be done and perhaps is being done. This would end the controversy. Probably you could delete the "not run on anything" group, but they would give you the start points. Remember, replication is key.
