With the way gas prices are going and BD at $3/gal, I'll soon be doing WVO!

both cars listed below will be wvo this summer sometime. I went 'dumpster diving' for the first time yesterday, but I used a crummy drill pump and it was somewhere between useless and fraudulant.

I'll probably blend during the summer biodiesel and filtered wvo and see how that works. stupid commercial biodiesel place has jacked up their prices to almost $3/gallon. profiteering. grrrr.

coachgeo - yes I did go to the link thanks. Now we need a concise location for all relevant information about each individual application such as for 300D.

I want to get a diesel and run WVO in it. but $3/gal is more than dino, although it could be that they were paying djugurba to haul it it away instead of dealing with its disposal.

Maybe someone needs to start up a mom & pop type small refinery where all the waste oil goes for minimal cleanup and resale. The feds should fund or chip in for a start up business like that as an alternative to oil importation.

The $3/gallon is for commercial biodiesel, NOT WVO. WVO is essentially free as you're doing restaurants a favor. But it has its problems that methyl esters doesn't.

I'm working on a turn-key processor that you basically pour in your free WVO, occasionally add methanol and lye to and it does the rest. Titrate, mix, heat, separate, wash, etc. 6-7 gallons in, 5 gals of BD out.

Most of the processors don't have much engineering or electronics into them and require a lot of babysitting.

Anyway, all it takes is $'s and I don't have that right now, but have procured a lot of the controls/electronics for the project.

Anyone want to help???

TomJ - is this process you are working on public domain or this is new needs to be patented, etc. What is your training and what kind of aisstance do you need? Will any of this work invite the feds to check you out you are not mixing it with fertilizer? etc. It seems like you cannot do anything these days without poping up on someone's radar.

My 87 SDL has about 8000 miles on WVO so far with no veggie-related problems.

Relevant info: Look at the FAQ's again. There is several links to 300D installs at the site as well as a link to a search that brings up relevant info for the 300D.

CoOps: There are CoOps that do biodiesel and or WVO (mostly Bio-D) scattered around. More in CA and OR than anywhere esle. There is also at the bulletin board my link sent you too, another forum that is "SVO Connections" (Straight Vegetable Oil). This forum will lead you to people that do WVO in your part of the world.

There also is different web site where folk have listed their ability to sell/donate WVO to travelers. That is LInked in the forum I just mentioned above if Im not mistaken.

Another words... its all there. Just take your time and read.

I assume coach sent you to the biodiesel.infopop... site. Along the way I think I have posted most of the components of my system there. Otherwise if you have any specific questions, let me know.

50 000 km on WVO

I ran a Mazda Capella (1990) 2.o litre diesel on WVO for ~45 000km and have sold that vehicle and now run 3 * MB 300D's on WVO/Biodiesel blends.

The Capella had a classic 2 tank system with both fuel delivery and return lines switched . I fitted a modifierd Turbo Timer, which gave me a 5 minuts "purge" time. During this time (on shutdown), the return line stayed connected to the WVO tank, to prevent main tank contamination with tallows (causing "hard fuel" starting problems).
I am working towards converting my '80 and '84 300D's to WVO two tank systems, but due to other priorities, I am still running on WVO/bio blends.
My wife does not want to think about switches, so she will run a single tank, blend system, with a coolant/fuel heat exchanger.

What kind of blend are you running Tony? I'd like to get the WVO going without having to the conversion yet, since it is staying above 50*F out now I don't think running a light blend of say 10% 86oct and 90% WVO should be a problem. If all goes well this year maybe I'll do an all out two tank conversion next year.

Unlawful possession of grease - no kidding!

Was reading up on this (looking for unique ways of collecting) and found that, in California at least, it's apparently a FELONY to collect waste oil (inedible kitchen grease) without paying the state for their "protection money":

19310. (a) It is unlawful for any person to engage in the
transportation of inedible kitchen grease without being registered
with the department and without being in possession of a valid
registration certificate issued by the department.
(b) Each registration shall expire on December 31st each year.

Here's the thread along with the full text of the law:

http://forums.biodieselnow.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2044&whichpage=2&SearchTerms=felony

So..., is there ANYTHING in Kalifornia that ISN'T a FELONY???

From the folks I've talked to in Cali, that law came into effect as a result of many people collecting grease to use in their VW vans.

Stupid law... grumble grumble.
