My '85 190 is having a bad clearcoat peel problem on the hood. With the other touch up jobs it needs, I'm thinking of having the car repainted. It's forest green mettalic right now, but I'd like to get it painted professionally with a color I've seen only twice.

GM Made a black mettalic pearl in '85 that let off a dark green glow in the sun. It was a heavy mettalic, and had incredible depth. Does anyone know of any distributors for this paint or where I can buy something similar?

I'd settle for the green metallic, or a really deep black as well.

Are you talking about that paint that changed colors slightly when viewed from different angles? I vaguely remember it from the ZR-1 Vette and the Ford Mustang Cobra. I'm sure such a paint-job would cost. I would probably stick to OE paint colors. 040 Black (non metallic deep-pure black) Or the Pearl Black (metallic black) Either of those were original colors that should look pretty good. There are some other options that you can get into such as using a newer color (like the dark metallic navy blue).

What is your geographic location? Try to find body shops in your area that do some "show cars" on the side. They will have the materials, and (most importantly) the talent, to give you a really amazing paint job. Talk to the local dealerships, customization shops, etc. Get a feel for who is good, and who knows your specific type of car.

Hope this helps...Lee

I'm in Italy. I have no problems finding quality labor to get the painting done, but the material cost of the paint itself will likely hurt (a LOT).

Thanks for the info on the paint, btw.
