It is a shame the MBUSA has decided not to import the G 400 CDI, which is the best choice on the G-klasse line up.

Just compare these figures:

G 400 CDI / G 320 / G 500

Engine type: V8 / V6 / V8
Fuel: Diesel / Gas / Gas
Displacement (c.c.): 3,996 / 3,199 / 4,966
Max Power (h.p.): 250 / 215 / 296
Max Torque (N.m.): 560 / 300 / 456
Max Speed (k.p.h.): 182 / 173 / 190
Mix consumption (l/100 km): 12,8 / 15,5 / 16,7

In speed tests, the G 400 CDI has proven to be only 0.1 slower from 0 to 62 m.p.h. than the G 500

The turbodiesel V-8 has more torque than Mercedes-Benz gasoline V-12!

Aesthetically, the G 400 CDI is identical to the G 500 (same equipment levels, wheels, colors, etc.)

The price range of the G 400 CDI is also very similar to the G 500 (same base price or a couple of thousand $ less depending on the market).

So, for the same price you get more torque than a V-12, and higher mileage than a V-6. Need anything else?

Having them offered for sale, but not having the money is bad.

The opposited is worse!

Yes, some good diesel fuel. Low sulphur and higher cetane. Federal Express uses "Freightliner" vans with detuned 270CDI engines. Even a slightly detuned 400CDI would be great. The way I drive, I don't need power. Low RPM torque is always preferable to high RPM horsepower here.
