Okay, I know it's the original carpet and it's in good condition, but orange? Would it affect the value of my car I took all this orange carpeting out and put in something a little less...ugly? Actually, I guess it's not that bad (for being orange carpet), but seems like it could look a lot nicer if it was a little less citrus.

I vote for "tear it out and replace it."

If you do a good job, and have good taste in color, I don't see how it would affect the market value.

Unless you frequent junkyards you might be in for a shock what a new set will set you back.........

I wonder if I could have someone re-do the matts. The originals seem to be of high quality. Then I'd only have to find matching side carpeting.

I find a set for a W116 is about $700........needless to say I will live with some sun fading for a while yet. If you have a friend who can do edge binding and got bulk automotive carpet ( avoid house carpet or jute backed....it will reak forever when it gets damp)

How much does carpet cost for these cars? Like about what would a complete carpet set for a LWB W126 run? Oe quality of course, $800ish?

Was the carpet originally orange? Or is it a burgandy that has faded?

If it's a faded color, maybe a re-dye to the original shade?

It was originally orange. Nothing has faded except my ability to prioritize working on this car with the rest of my life

I vote remove anything orange from your car, except the glow plug indicator light.

GAHH is the best for interiors. World UPH is very good and entirely suitable for almost all cars. They have a website that lists prices. Also Millers MBZ in Fountain Valley, Ca. Expect to pay anywhere from $600 - $1400, depending on who you call and what quality you want.

There are ways to dye things, I have no experience with those though.

I'll post a picture of the interior after I get back from a photo-shoot in Oregon next week.

I'm taking pics of a sort of Rage Against the Machine/Hip hop band.:dj:
(I finally found an excuse to use that new Smily).

I vote to keep it. You don't see many cars with orange interiors today. It seems like all new cars have boring gray interiors. In fact, how many 1982 300Ds had orange interiors? I doubt there were many. It's a rarity, leave it alone, and use the money to fix something mechanical.

It's not an orange interior, it just happens to have orange floor carpeting (the rest is burgundy and black. Don't want to make it sound worse than it is:rolleyes: It actally looks quite nice.

I want a swamp-green one with orange interior!

That spray stuff is a little like paint. I colored the back shelf black, and it seemed to come out a little dry and stiff.

I completely redid the carpet in my car, one large sheet of gray carpet that thanks to my talented mother was cut to fit exactly. My orange carpet was completely shredded, moldy, and extremely smelly. If it's in terrible shape go ahead and rip it out, the results are a lot nicer than the original.

I agree with jbaj007 on this. I used dye from vinylpro recently and I'm very happy with it. Pick a color that you would like to live with, perhaps a shade of burgandy a bit darker than the current orange. If the carpet is in good condition but just a funky color I would ABSOLUTELY NOT spend $1000 and a lot of work to change it when you can get great results with $30 and less work. Changing good carpet when recoloring is all you need would be a sin.
