rust
Are certain diesel models less prone to rust problems than others? It seems like the 300sd's have less rust than the 300d and 300td models that I have seen.
My 1967 230 was a true rust bucket by the time I sold it in 1980. Now I am looking at much older vehicles (albeit newer models) and the rust doesn't seem as bad. I can deal with cosmetic rust but not structural rust. What are your thoughts on this?

More on rust
I have seen no variation between them.
The determining factor is previous owner care.  Here is a thread to look at.  Who has the most rust and still drives

How bout if you just let it sit outside in the winter when they salt the roads but not drive it? My thinking is the salt won't be slingin' up into the fenderwells and undercarriage thus not as much rust promotion.

As much as it sucks to do anything in the cold, I rinse out the wheel wells and jack holes every few weeks during the winter to try to keep the salt from building up some, granted the car wasnt driven much during the winter.

Rust is a cancer. It is cheaper to ship a CA car then to fix rust.
