How to paint roof and hood

Hey Guys,
I am thinking of painting my hood and roof on my 83 300TD. Behind the rear passanger windows is a black molding that curves around to the rear window. I am assuming that this molding would make a good paint break to seperate the roof line to the reset of the car. Here is a few questions for those who have done this. Should I paint the the rain gutters or do I make a paint up to the rain gutters by feathering the paint? How much base and clear is needed (it is metalic grey)? Could I get by with one quart of paint? If anyone has done this I would some pointers.
Thanks.
rene

The roof on those are pretty long, a quart might not be enought to do both the roof and hood. I worked in a body shop for 5 years. You can mask right along the rain gutters and paint right up to them, no need to "feather " the paint.
