Early G-Wagon Rust Question

Hi all,
Where do the early G's rust and what should one look out for when purchasing one? G in question is a '79. If it's showing a bit at the bottom rear of the front fenders and at the bottom in the back corners, How much is it hiding?
Thanks!

Original Paint? If not, there's probably a lot that's hidden.

Paint would appear to be original...ie: it looks fairly well burn off and all of its 26yrs old.

The older (W460) G's had problems with rust in the rear quarter panels, especially around the tail lights. Also, check around and behind the rubber strip in the rocker panels under the side doors. There have also been rust problems reported around the wind screen, especially in that seam that runs from side to side under the windshield.

A lot depends upon where the G spent its 26 years. Germany = Lots of salt = lots of rust in one that old! In the US, they were usually treated a little better by their owners because they were so rare; so rust on one that spent its life in the US is usually not as much of a problem. Of course, one that lived in the rust belt will probably have more rust than one that lived in the South or the Southwest.
