i have paid

about 500 for cheap paint job at maaco. they cant be trusted for competant rust repair so if you need that done better do it yourself first. if you want a first class job you will have to pay a lot more. the above will get a basic job with their third up from bottom quality of paint. they stay shiny for about 4 to 5 years outside in indiana at that price.

A complete exterior refinish without changing color would run $5000-7500 at the shop where I work, depending on how many trim pieces need to be R&I'd to avoid masking around them. It'll shine like a new penny when we're done if you can stand the price.

$29.99-$10k

I am not kidding how picky are you?

If you want factory correct it will run you at least $4k but probably north of $5k. It depends on if you pull windows, pull fenders, doors, replace trim, replace seals, fix dents ect.

Or you can have a Maco or some similer hack job spray it.

To do a proper job every piece of trim comes off including the front and rear windsheilds. You would also probably remove the doors and probably the hood and trunk lid as well. Every panal would have to have whatever dents were in it banged out and faired. A good quality paint job takes a lot of time and skill.

Considering the car is only 10 years old how bad can the paint be? Maybe you can just have sections of the car sprayed.

I am picky and can spot a crap paint job from across the lot. I really hate crap jobs on nice cars, $500 will get you a junk job on a nice car. If you want a MB quality job you are going to spend at least $4k-$5k at a good high end body shop.

It's a long story but they made somemistakes and screwed up whole paint that's the court's problem now. But I see your point, I already spend alot of time and money on the A/C already, if I know %100 sure car is in perfect condition I think i can spend about 2k for the paint. Let me spend more time with the car and check it tehn I will decide if it's worth it or not.
Thanks anyway

I have to have mine painted sometime next year, there are some rust spots and the previous owner kissed the side of something on the passenger side and scrapped the hebiejesus out of her. I am preparing for 5000-6000 because i plan on keeping this car and want it done right.....

AMGEric had his car painted in Tijuana Mexico. they did a very nice job, and he bought every body panel clip he could find for the outside of the car, they removed every panel, and painted it with a nice job I believe he paid less than $1500.00 but not sure.

A lot of porsche guys get their cars painted at the place he went to. took them I believe about a week to do it.

The shop I use, easily $5000 - $10,000 depending on what you had them do.

but you also do get what you pay for. the shop I use does concours work, but sometimes they do a bad job too.

I have another guy who does great work, not super fast but he does a very nice job, but expect the price to be similar.

overall I would have no problems getting my car done at either shop I have used, but then again I also know the owners very well.

My customer paid $5700.00 to have a bad re-spray at another shop corrected on a 2000yr e320 wagon in Oklahoma City.

You'd now swear it was never painted since leaving the factory !

$1500 sounds about right to me

The shop I used to paint my car just quoted a friend around $1500 to paint his 97 BMW 528i in the same colour.

I gave them this

They took it to this

And gave me back this

For $1,500? Any orange peel? Runs? Overspray?

Whats the hourly labor rate? In my area its $70-$80 per hour.

None of the above

No orange peel, runs or over spray although they did get some paint on the windows which i need to scrape off with a razor blade. I really can't complain. These are the same guys who did my 6.9

you can see pictures of that rebuild on
http://alabbasi.com/450SEL.htm
Go through the phases to see the work they did.

There are shops that charge and there are shops that do mass production poor quality resprays, but there are many shops in between that do great work for a reasonable price. It would have been impossible to rebuild my 6.9 at a labor rate of $80/hr.

Alabassi, it looked to me like your windows were out in the one picture where the car was primed. Are you saying they painted it with the windows in? If it's as good as you say it is, I think you got a hell of a good deal.

I've only had one car repainted completely and that was $2,000.00. The restoration shop across the street from my office did it. They have always acted very friendly towards me, but they didn't do me any real favors. Labor here in the washington, DC area is pretty high, I'm sure.

Windows

The glass came out when the car was painted and new seals were put in when the glass was put back in. This is where the razor scrape came from. The glass is a nightmare on a W108.

Even though these guys are excellent value, I'm going to try my hand at painting a car myself.

I bought red BC/CC paint package for my MG and Cameron Green single stage for the Rover. I'll try the Rover first as it can be painted in pieces. Wish me luck!

Paint job estimate.....

I got a quote last week on having my 84 300CD painted. It has a deep scratch on the passenger side front fender that is starting to rust and the paint is starting to crack. I was recommended a shop in town by the local wash&wax guy. The paint shop owner quoted me $3000 to sand it and paint it. I asked if I had to remove any of the trim and he said no, he would prefer to do that. He also said it would take about two weeks to do. Since the car has under 97k miles and I plan on keeping "Aunt Irene" for a long time I want it done right.....

I plan on doing this early next year, in the meantime I'm still checking out other body shops. I really don't think you'll find a good quality job done for under $2000.
