anti rust fix ?

I've done some search and came up with por15 as one of the good antirust solutions. I wanted to know if someone has used it or any similiar product to take care of the undercoating rust. I've got a truck where the underbody is being rusted and i want to find a way to keep it from spreading and also take care of the situation.
thnx.

Eastwood has their own product which works just as well and looks the same (probably comming off the same production line).

Sorry to disagree.
The Eastwood formula is patented, and copy right protected, they produce it through a subsidiary contract with special provision that competitive product production is not allowed.
I had a nice long phone discussion with the Eastwood people, asking about their product last year.
POR15 is also patented, and copy right protected.

Have a great day.

@manny,
did you do the whole undercoating or was it just a piece of body that needed antirust coating ?
did you use the spray or brush. i need the whole underbody done. What should I do ? buy it and go to a paint shop or would the bodyshops know of por15 ?
what would the charge be for something like this ?
thnx.

I only did the inside, bottom of the door edge.
Cleaned the rust & pitting with a wirewheel on a drill, applied the de-greaser, wash, applied the metal prep, wash, applied 3 coats of por 15 with a brush, let dry & apply touch-up paint.
I would do it myself & save some big $, as it is all labor.
Since you're doing the underbody, use a brush.
You will love the results.

POR15 is not UV resistant and should be top coated. If you just want to spruce up the from under parts. Eastwoods chassis black paint is eaiser to apply and doesn't require top coating. It will not encapsulate like eastwoods encapsulator though.

I've used POR15 since it came out. Excellent product, just don't get it on skin! Wear gloves and long sleeves.

I've used both POR-15 and Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator and much prefer the Eastwood product.

It's more forgiving of surface prep, it doesn't require being topcoated, and it's not as toxic as POR-15.

POR-15 caused me to get out my painting mask and filters because of the heady aroma that could only come of ingredients that are very bad for you. If the surface it's applied to isn't completely prepared per their instructions the dried product will chip off, fall off, and I've seen one instance in which large areas peeled off like skin off of a snake. Who needs a pain in the behind product when trying to work in areas that are not smooth, even, well lit, and otherwise ideal? The stuff is too persnickety.

Talking Por-15

This stuff works great. I have used this to coat my truck bed (prior to bedliner installation) to under the battery box on my 116, to breathing new life back into my wrought iron railing on my porch. If you follow the directions exactly, it performs superbly!! Wire brush heavily rusted areas. Wash with marine clean and rinse. Spray with the metal ready and keep wet for 20 minutes, rinse THOROUGHLY. Prepped metal must be BONE DRY (1-3 days) Glove up because this stuff will NOT wash off, only thing that will remove it from your skin is time.

You can brush or spray POR-15. Apply second coat 2-6 hours after first application. If you do not recoat within the 2-6 hour window, you will be boned and will need to scuff it before adding second application. Can be painted to color match. Pour only what you need into a clean container. DO NOT pour unused POR-15 back into your original container, you will contaminate it. I use an old turkey baster to suck out what I need from my jar and put into a disposable container. Shelf life is greatly increased if you put it into a glass mason jar and put it in the fridge. I have never had POR-15 flake off, nor have I had rust return. The metal ready will discolor plastic. POR-15 is good stuff and can be purchased in bulk very reasonably at NationalPartsDepot.com. Sealed metal cannot breathe or get wet. No oxygen/moisture, no further rust.

Don't forget.
If you do not top paint por 15 uv rays kill it and it will stop working.
I have been using it for years and Eastwoods rust encapsulator too. Either can be mixed 20% with thinner and then sprayed.
