What is (was) this part?
Just bought a 300D to replace mine that was totalled in a wreck. VERY VERY sad story. Breaks my heart. Well, ended up getting a 300D with some major rust problems which is hurting my feelings. Here's my question. The major rust is in an area that I'm not sure what it's called. It is behind the rear tires, under the quarter panels, running parralel to the road basically. The metal there is non-existant. All that's there is the plastic wells from the trunk. I need to get something there. What sheet metal part should I be looking for or does this need to be custom made? Thanks!

I believe they are called the lower rear quarter panels. My 300D had the same cancer .
Good luck

Answer:
Wheel well.
Quarter panel. Trunk floor pan. Look through this thread, select the picture that best shows your issue, then reference that post & picture for a better description. Well, I can't seem to figure out how to get a picture in here. Looks like it has to be living on the web, and while I found a couple that would help, I don't know how to get em in here. Basically, here's what I'm looking at.
If you're standing there, looking at the side profile of the car, you wouldn't really notice the rust right away. Until you walk to the rear tire (either side) and look directly behind it. You'll see rust eating away up the side of the outward facing quarter panel. then You get on your knees and look under the quarter panel, where it wraps around and is parrallel to the ground. Basically, there is no steel there. It has disintegrated entirely. You're looking directly at the plastic well of the trunk. It's basically the 10 inch wide by 16 inch long section that reaches all the way back up into the rear bumper. Just straight up gone. So, I'm wondering. Do I get a whole new quarter panel and replace it? Or can I cut a piece from a parts car, cut out a section of my quarter panel, and weld it in there? The whole thing makes me sick. I am so homesick for my old 300D with 148,000 miles on it, a *****ing turbo, and not a speck of rust. It was my grammy's car and she gave it to me. I will be posting some other questions. I can't tell you how happy i am to have found this forum. Thank you all so much for your help! |

However, you need to remove the floor mats, and inspect the areas shown in post #189, #188, #186, #181, #180, #179, #178 and #175... |
