Well all, I posted this as an advisory of my findings that many of you may not be aware of. While there are many seams on the cars we can see and check regularly, there are also some hidden ones, which after 20+ yrs of service would be wise to inspect. I had removed the left front fender on my 82 to clean out the usual mud and debris that always gets caught up by the rocker and causes rot, as I am going the full monty on restoring this one. After removing the fender I noticed the seam sealer had all but completely flaked away but for a few token chips, and surface rust was started where the sealer was. After seeing that, I checked and found the same on my other side. I highly recommend inspecting these areas whether or not you have a rusty car, I am glad I found this now as I want to keep this body rust free. I wire brushed the area clean and applied a neutralizer before resealing. You can see where the seam was almost completely bare and where I replaced the sealer. Even though it was in a cavity sheltered inside of the fender and plastic wheel well liner it still gets water blown in the area going down the road.
