some rust questions, 240d

i have a couple of spots in the wheel wells where it has rusted through but not a big spot. since its not even noticeable unless you get on the ground and look up if any of these two options are doable:
1) remove stuff that falls off. treat with por15. paint, and put 3m soft seam sealer over it to act as an undercoat. similar to surroundings. this is for the area with the ruler shown only.
2) for the hole, is its too big for bondo ? remove flakes and bubbles, treat with por15, then bondo over that, then prime, paint, and clear coat.

where does one get matching paint in a spray can ? or small can to use with a brush ?

The only right way to fix it is to cut out rusted metal and weld in patch panel. Either DIY or restoration shop.

What is best body filler material?

I hear Bondo mentioned all the time, but are there any new filler products out there that this forum has tried?

Like most owners of older cars, I have to fill rust holes in a 69. I'll need to put in some metal to fill, but I'd like to know if there is a particular type of bondo-like filler that experienced folks prefer these days. In case I don't have the brains to get back here soon, could someone drop me a note at bbfloor@gmail.com and give me some leads to this bonehead body repair question?

Many thanks, Bill in NY

Best Body filler is Rage Gold, its a polyurethane filler 10 time better than bondo, but costs twice as much, available at autobody repair facilites.

Could someone please explain why the Rage Gold is better? I have a half used can, but am running out of the blue catalyst. So I picked up a huge can of the bondo at Home Depot. (Haven't opened the new bondo yet, have the receipt and can return it.)

Normal bondo is not waterproof. Fibrefill short stranded fillers are fibreglass basically and a lot better for your initial fill coats. The more expensive urathane based products are probably even better.
Basically I see the normal bondos just as a finishing coat as they work so easily. The short strand fibreglass fillers are not very expensive either.

Yup, I definitely want waterproof. Agree, I don't think the rage gold is that much more expensive than the bondo, and if I'm going to spend the time to do the bodywork, might as well use the best I can afford and (hopefully) not have to do the same restoration work over again in the near future.

Edit: returned the bondo, got another can of the rage.
