For those of us still looking for the cheapest possible paint job...
http://www.rickwrench.com/50dollarpaint.html
Maybe this has been on here before, but I've been away over a month now and figured I needed to post something of value, or at least worthy of debate. This actually looks good from a distance and in web photos but who knows....I just got to thinking after pumping so much money into my engine just how much did I really want to spend on paint anyway... For the amount of work involved in painting a car, just do it right. That way you won't hit yourself in the head every time you notice all the imperfections.

Hey!! That dont look too bad! Most people cant tell a cheap paint job from a immaculate one anyway, otherwise Maaco would have gone out of buisness a long time ago. And to top it off it's a Corvair! If you could show me how to transplant my diesel engine in the rear of my benz that would be the iceing on the cake.Im a ex corvair guy that still has a stash of vair parts.

I have to wonder how that looks up close. I find it hard to believe there aren't imperfections that are very noticeable. It does look very good from the pics though.
I guess if you just want something to hold you over until you can afford to do it right, this may not be a bad option. My Benz could use this as a temporary fix until I can get a real paint job. At least this would be better than peeling clear everywhere. |

Bad paint jobs
Bad paint jobs can show up as bubbling paint in less than a month. You have your orange peel paint, mis-matched paint, and other problems to deal with. If you're keeping a car, it should be done right in my opinion because you'll just be banging your head against the wall in a short time if a short cut is taken.
The hard part is finding a good body or paint shop. Once you find one, pay 'em what they ask. Regards, Randy Kasal |

Yes, there are ways to save money while still getting a good paint job. Removing trim, etc. yourself would save some coin if you really want it done right. Find a shop you can work with and they can probably tell you ways to get the cost down without sacrificing quality.

Looks good for what it is, but by no means would this pass in person inspection, I have seen that same exact process and a few tweaks many times, for what it is... Awesome!...Take an old beater and make a decent ten feet away ride.
