getting diesel off of (non clear coated) paint or "why i'm done with kim's BP"
Yesterday I was filling up at the local diesel pump- the closest place, a little pricey and unfriendly, but it's not a 10 minute drive just to get diesel.
The pump is going excruciatingly slowly- about a minute for the first dollar of fuel (at $3.30/gal). I went inside to ask the station attendant if there was anything she could do. She tried to explain something, but I couldn't understand due to her heavy accent. She then went outside to my car and pulled the pump handle, still pumping, out of my car, spilling diesel all over the rear quarter and trunk. She adjusted where the hose attaches to the handle and the flow rate increased, and then stuck it back in my car. At least a gallon, probably two, of fuel spilled on my car and on the deck. When I pointed this out to her, she went inside and came back out with a roll of paper towels and handed me a few- begrudgingly giving me a few more when I asked for them. Of course, paper towels don't really get diesel off the car, they just make your hands smell... To top it off, she insisted that I pay full price for the meter- including the fuel she pumped on (not in) my car. For those in the area, this is Kim's BP on Richmond Rd. So... any ideas for getting diesel off the car, without taking the paint with it?

brian- once she corrected the issue it began flowing very quickly, and it did take a her 15-20 seconds once it started flowing to finish whatever she was doing with the handle and get it back in the car

Report it. I don't think the EPA would take too kindly to people doing something like that, much less THE OWNER! Dumping fuel?

Spilt diesel is not going to take the paint off of your car. get some soap
and water and wash it off. If the attendant just pulled the handle and the flow increased, maybe you didn`t have it pulled all the way. If she spilt as much as you said, she should have brought out some oil sorb (kitty litter) to soak up the fuel. also seem she is liable for the fuel you are being charged for. If she is just an employe and not the owner, her neck might be on the line. Charlie

Yep, firstly, what she did was a blatently illegal violation of EPA regulations, secondly she can't legally charge you for the fuel she spilled unless you were the actual cause of the spill (but you werent holding the nozzle, she was), thirdly I'd notify both the EPA and the station owner of what she did and that she billed you for the fuel and you want a partial refund. Go spook back around there and see if there's any surveillance cameras about the place that might've caught her doing it, and get the owner to review the tape with you before it records over it (usually 24 hr wraparounds).

Just wash the car with some soap and rewax that area. If you already had a good coat of wax on the paint it should clean right up.
If they did that to my car I would be seriously PO'd, report them to whatever agency you can, EPA?

Try "acryli-clean" from PPG. It's a good paint safe cleaner.
