water on floor in the back seat 85 TD
hello
when it rains i get water right behind the front passenger seat on the floor on the side closest to the door. Is this a leaky door gasket or may there be some other clogegd drain somewhere, like maybe coming from the sunroof ? door gasket is $$$, like $90 something thanks |

It could be from those sources, but also check your battery tray area under the hood. If you have a hole from rot, the water would enter there and collect in the rear footwell since it is the low point. On my wagon, I had a similar leak on the driver side that was due to the rear door seal. ... and the windshield gasket. When I cleaned out the sunroof drains, the fronts were easy. The rear drains were easier to clean by removing the sunroof panel and pushing a line from the rear of the drain up into the sunroof cavity where I used a shop vac with a small wand extension to grab the crud. I don't know any sources for a cheaper price on the seals, but I would stick to OEM to be sure they fit properly. Good luck

I had the same experience, turned out to be the back drains in the sun roof. I used thick gauge weed eater line and ran it through all drains to unclog. Note that you may have to access the rear drains from the back end of the car and work your way up. They come out at the back of the chrome at the rear window.
Good Luck |

This happens on my '83 300D. Surprisingly, the leak is from the front of the car in the air scoops. Water gets in there, follows the firewall down to the floor and them collects in the back whenever the back of the car is lower than the front. You can barely notice this when the carpets are down, but observation w/o carpets prove it to be so.
Twenty plus years of restoration carpentry taught me that the source of any water leak is oftentimes not in the most obvious place. The only way I tracked this one down was to have my daughter create a simulated rainstorm w/ the hose (she's 5 and loved that) while I watched the inside. Haven't fixed this yet. Too many projects...But I cover this car and don't drive it in the winter or rain. Good Luck!

Lift the engine bonnet and look for rust (and rot) on the main cabin under the windshield drain and inboard of the bonnet spring. I've got a pool of rainwater in my backseat footwell, and I know that's where it's coming from.

I had this exact problem, an inch of water in the backseat footwell, until I pressure washed the hood hinge wells, including blasting out the holes in the front wheel wells and the ones immediately behind the front wheels. Alot of water enters around the hood and below the windscreen and by design it should all exit out of the bottom of the car before the firewall.
