Talking Back from the Paint Shop. Brace Yourselves: Before & After

Overall, I am very satisfied with the work done. I was originally quoted $2,700 for the job which included some body work, proper prep work, paint, wetsand, and buff. This job did not include pulling windows, and the masking marks are there, but barely visible.

It turns out the owner of the shop owes my father some money, so I got hooked up by owing only the cost of materials, a HELL OF A DEAL.

I have some before, during and after pictures for everyone to see, and pictures of the area I am not competely satisfied with.

Front View Before: Looks good from 10 feet

During: Bright Green Primer was a new experience.

After, WOWIE! I still have to get some wax residue off her.

Rear View: Not a good before photo sorry

During

After

Roof Before: YIKES!

After: Amazing

And the Liberty Bell Crack. This is where I am not as satisfied.

Before:

During

And After: they went a little overboard with the grinding and waved out the body away from the trunk too much. Its not too bad, but discernable enough to notice. They could have done alot better with this area, but its a huge improvement from before, and the rust should be contained.

She's ready for her Texas Spring Break Road trip. Many pictures to come. Thanks for the advice everyone.

WOW sexyness!! the only thing that really looked bad before was your roof and that crack by the trunk. Think a good heavy polish/ rubbing compound could have taken that oxidation out? anyways its a nice deal, and will look great for another 20 years

Yes, some heavy elbow grease could have made that roof look alot better, but not perfect. The crack was the deal breaker.

That's great!

Have one in the same color that might need a redo from sun fading some time soon... Do you know what color the shop used?

These pictures urge me to get out the radial sander and get cracking...

They got the factory paint code and mixed it up.

Great looking paint job, like the color also.
I had the same problem you did by the rear window. It`s a place the body panels are welded together. Did you remove the rear window? If you had a rust problem that was visible, there could be more behind the rubber.

When I pulled the rear glass I was surprised as to the amount of rust I had. I striped it down to bare metal, then used POR Metal Ready to eliminate the rust. Then coated it with the POR paint and seam sealer. so far so good, that was 10 yrs ago.
These W123 seem to have a leak problem around the back window, just the way it`s designed.

You make me envious, mine is due for paint.

Charlie ☺

It looks beautiful in the pictures and all that really matters is that you are happy with it and like it!
Nothing like fresh paint on a old German car, love it!

that wouldn't be wax residue.it would be finishing glaze.you do not want wax anywhere near that paint for at least 6 months.

Mine came from a bad body shop repair. No, I didn't have the rear window pulled. I'll let you know in a few years if that was a mistake.

If the shop has a little of your base color left ask for it. Useful to keep for minor repairs to get a good color match sometimes. You could pick up a parking dent down the road for example. Car looks a lot nicer. Nice color as well and as you say the price was right.
