Question How to remove back window - w126 rust problem - 85 300sd

How do you remove the rear window / seal I need to replace the metal on the bottom sill due to rust and water in the trunk.. Will a seal and window and sill from a 87 300sdl fit? I shows as a different part # for seal.

let a pro remove it and when you're done, let them put it back in

most dealers have a glass company that does this for them, ask them or an inde for referrals

The glass will fit the same between a Gen 1 and Gen 2. The rubber seal and trim are different.

To remove the glass you need to:

1) remove lower rear seat by two releases at base of seat (seriously)
2) remove upper rear seat, there are three 8mm bolts: one on each side and one in the middle.
3) remove C pillar trim: #1 phillips head screw, then pry front of trim at door seal, then slide upwards to release the rear of the trim. Then disconnect the reading lights.
4) remove upper center trim by pulling forward and disconnect light
5) remove rear platform pocket latches (one for first aid kit the other for storage) with a #2 phillips head screw driver.
6) remove rear platform: lift upward slightly and pull forward. disconnect speaker cable.
7) disconnect defroster power strips, one on each side.
8) from inside, gently pry window seal in and back over frame lip, work all the way around.
9) pull out window.

Replacing the window is at least a two person operation - three is better.

Here is an excellent series of about 75 pictures on how to perform the task:

There are other pictures mixed in with what you need to see.

Here are a couple of samples:

Are you sure that they are the same??? I am having a terrible time getting the rear glass for my 85 300Sd. The one that was installed needed to be cut down to fit and the trim popped off on the way home. The early glass was laminated and the newer glass is tempered and I have been told that the defrost wires are in a different place.

Thanks
Robert
