Lower rear windshield metal repair

I'm at a cross roads here with my 300SD and wanted to know what has people come accross price wise worst case scenario to replace or repair a seriously rusted rear window metal casing? I have read about people repairing them here with minimal to moderate rust but this one is a bit on the moderate to serious repair. I don't think POR15 will cure this one without ending up filling the holes....

history.,

This car has 315K on the odo and runs like a gem. Very minimal rust and was a 1 owner..

Minimal rust? You mean except for the part under the rear windshield? Cutting it out and welding a new piece in is the best way. It sounds like you probably need to go that route from your description. Of course, you have to weigh the cost of repairs with the potential life left in the car.

Exactly, This car runs like a top and is quite fast now. She has a slew of new parts and adjustments done. It just seems like it's a big job which will call for a complete paint job...
