W123 hood flew open-windsheld gone, I am OK
It was my mistake. I didn't realize I had left the hood open the night before. And it was dark in the morning too. But as I got to about 40MPH, wham, the hood opened, kissed the windshield, and the 2 back corners of the hood made nice divits in the cowling. (That bit of metal between the hood and the windshield.)
Now I can't close the hood because the back of the hood won't clear the cowling. It is like the hood was pushed straight back about 1/2 inch. The hood looks straight, and the hinges do not look bent. I played with the hinges some, but I don't see any forward/backward adjustment. From what I have read, it seems my hinges are bent.. right? The term is 'sprung'? Can anyone confirm this? 1984 300D

I did the same thing on my SD. The hinges bent and the rear corners of the hood bent so they would catch when trying to close it. I took a rubber mallet to the corners so the hood would close then bought a hood from Daw_Two. Now I have to finish adjusting the hood. Note: You can pull the hood without pulling the fenders. Access the hood hinge attaching nuts via the fender wells.
