Ever use POR 15?
 

Sounds a bit ambitious. The PO cleaned the battery terminals will baking soda but never rinsed the acid off after it dripped down.

Anyone ever use this stuff? The starter kit is only $26. I'm tempted to give it a shot. I wonder how this compares to just scraping off the rust and putting on a coat of Rustoleum.

I used it before . It's great stuff.

I've used both POR-15 and Rust Bullet, and I have good things to say about both.

I used POR-15 on my battery tray about 4 years ago, and today it pretty much looks like the day I put it on.

I used Rust Bullet the exposed parts of my front spindles/uprights when I did the front end rebuild. It's gotten quite dirty since then, but there is no sign of any rust or corrosion.

Because POR-15 is UV light sensitive, I tend to use it on hidden items in dark areas (under hood for example). It's glossy black and needs to be top coated if exposed to sun. It also has a somewhat involved surface prep requirement, but the starter kit contains all that's needed.

Rust Bullet is silver, and has no UV light issues and no surface prep needed other than wire brushing.

I'm not able to pick a favorite.

I too used POR15 on the battery tray in my 95 a bunch of years ago. I checked it a month or so ago and it still looks great.

I have used it for numerous repairs, batt tray, small holes in the inner fenders, trunk and front lower cowl areas. Full surface prep is essential.
Seems like top grade stuff.

Get your big-boy search pants on and you can find tons of folks who have used POR 15 and loved it. With pics.......

I'll put my vote in for Rust Bullet. I have used both POR 15 and Rust Bullet. Here at the beach the Rust Bullet seems to hold up a little better. Only problem is that you need to use 2 coats. A base coat and then a re-coat in a few hours or the next day to fill all the microscopic pores from the first coat. The silver rust bullet is some crazy nasty stuff. When you open the can and stir it.... It looks like it is alive!:eek:

I used in in the hinge pockets and inside the door bottoms to prevent any rust from ever happening there. A good preventative measure.

can't right now. they're still at the cleaners. besides, i'm already wearing recycled underwear. :rolleyes:

I will put in my support for por-15, it's great stuff, worth the price.

Por-15 is really cool stuff. I also bought the starter kit and was impressed! Highly recommended!

To answer your question, yes it works very well.

I have used a ton of it, a great product. follow the directions, don`t cut corners.

the paint is moisture activated. so painting out of the can, moisture will start activating the paint. dip out what you need, put seran wrap on the can before putting the lid back on. any paint in the grove w/o seran wrap, and that lid ain`t coming off later on.

I have can that was activating after I closed it up, the bottom is bulged out.

be sure to wear nitral/latex gloves. that stuff will have to wear off after it dries.
