Repainting: Silver vs white

Hello all,

I will have access to a compressor in the coming months and I'll buy a DA sander and a sprayer to paint my now multi-tone metallic blue 87 300D Turbo.

With the gawd awful dark blue interior (sorry for those of you who like the color), my choices of exterior colors that look good are quite limited. I'm thinking silver or white. *I am open to any suggestions that you guys think would work well w/ a blue interior*. Personally, my favorite color combination is black exterior and some shade of tan, but those days are over as I am too impatient and too short of time to constantly wash a black exterior. A dark metallic grey exterior is also one of my favorite colors, but with a blue interior? Blegh.

That said, here are some color questions:

- Is it true that metallic paints are more difficult to "get right" than solid colors like white, red, and black?

- There are so many Mercedes paint codes for white and silver that I have no idea which one to choose

Thanks to any and all painting professionals and the always opinionated
peanut gallery

Bob

In my experience, white shows dirt just as easily as black.

Last weekend I just detailed (wash, dry, clay bar, cleaner wax, hard wax) my mother's white accord. Started at 9AM...finished around 4:30, with help from my brother. They're brilliant when they're clean and waxed, but, man, it really shows it if you don't.

ok lemme clarify:

I'm not asking if dirt shows up better or worse on white vs silver. i am asking if painting silver paint is more difficult than white. i read somewhere that metallic paints are more difficult to get right than white or other solid color paints. anyone with experience corroborate that?

I understand metallic paints are more difficult to spray, no experience. Yet I was at a function at a body shop, they mentioned how careful you need to be and spray the whole car instead of different days. It's impossible to match, something about that spray gun and other items I've forgotten.
My SD is white with a blue, I don't like it either, interior. You aren't sure about how dirty it is until you wash it.
