Removing spray paint from trunk and windows?

Halloween. Spray paint on trunk and side windows. A forum search came up with suggestions of WD-40 or oven cleaner to remove spray paint. Anybody try it?

I used orange hand cleaner the kind with pumas in it when some yahoo decided I needed black spray paint on my hood, headlights, and license plates. Be gentle with it. Don't push just gently rub and let the cleaner do the work. The paint came right off.

Oven cleaner = bad idea. WD40 might work. I've successfully used acetone to get spray paint off of a car finish, but that was a fairly new car with an intact clear coat and a recent wax job.

Glass.

A single-edge razor blade and 0000 steel wool will make short work of the stuff on the glass.

You gotta' be careful for the paint on the paint though (obviously!!). If your car has never been painted on (has factory paint) lacquer thinner will wash the spray paint off, and shouldn't harm the finish. Just don't do anything with anything in direct sunlight, or on a hot day. You wanna' be a little bit quick, too. Don't leave the thinner on the car any longer than absolutely necessary. Works great for tar, too!

Try a little spot way down on the fender or quarter panel, just to be sure the thinner won't wash the paint you want to keep off, too.

Jay.

These products from ZEP work perfectly, the first two are non-solvent based are the best, but the last one which is a pre-wetted towel is solvent based and works great also. There are ZEP distributorships across the US and if you stop by one and talk to someone at the counter they will often give you a free sample to try.

Recently had the other car sprayed from just behind the windshield to the rear end of the car. The path was right thru the middle of the windows and the paint used was a light grey in color. Acetone worked wonders for the windows and the light grey was so close to the body color and was put on from a car in motion ?? that it does not show on the painted areas. So it was left alone. Obviously this wasn't a Benz, and is 21 yrs old, so...........

steel wool will etch the glass--i'd go with razor blade and paint thinner only on glass

what is it about halloween that gives people the license to egg, teepee, spray paint, and other misbehaviours? i mean, that one time i was in junior high, and my friend encouraged me to go to the mall with him and drop eggs on people's cars from the third story of the parking lot--totally uncool in retrospect. but totally fun while i was doing it. before we got caught by the cops, that is.

heh, we were minors, alls we got was suspended from the mall. haha

acetone will work, but take the paint off too. use gasoline on a rag. happened to my f150 last year. if it has a coat of wax on it, good chances are its going to come off very easily. not sure about the plastic lenses though. but the paint is going to be okay.

I was pissed. I wasn't the only one that got nailed that night though. Now the car looks like this. So no worries.

Fine.

Steel wool - quadruple ought - won't harm the glass in any way, fool.
