Emblem Removal on an '82 300 TD Wagon
Can anyone tell me how to get those old Mercedes emblems off the rear hatch. I was hoping that they were just stuck on there with adhesive, no such luck. Is there a special tool that I need or something?

Yes. I believe there are three posts on the back of the rear Mercedes star badge that insert through the trunk lid and held by plastic clips/grommets. I removed mine by pushing on the posts from the reverse side of the trunklid with the rear end of a screwdriver I think, then you can easily but carefully pry it off. My only question is why do you want to remove the Mercedes symbol?..... thats what finishes off the "debadged" look just remove the 300E badge, and leave that pretty star alone

The emblems are held in with posts pushed into emblem grommets. The star is held on by a single nut which you can access from inside the hatch after the hatch panel is removed. You can push the back side of the posts on the emblems from inside too. This way you have less risk of bending them during removal.

I'm going to go with the stock color so it matches the engine bay and the door jambs. It's a nice dark burgundy color.

The trim is held by the nut you saw and plastic clips. Use a plastic trim tool to pry them off from the bottom edge. Then there is a metal strip at the front edge of the trim piece that is slid into a square hole in the door skin. Just slide the trim toward the back of the car and it comes off.
