My turn...Spring Perch

Without warning or knowledge of the spring perch problem, my l/h front perch gave way and the spring bounced down the highway. I am lucky there was no collateral damage to the car or to any cars following behind. I retrieved the spring and limped the 5 miles home. I've owned the car exactly 1 year since I just renewed the tag, a 1999 E300TD. I live in the south and the car came from NJ.

I searched the web and found this site, and learned I should try the Goodwill route at MB of Memphis. No luck since I maintain the car myself and have never had it in their shop. Now the fun begins! The perch and rivets can be bought off this site, but what about the sealant and primer? I am thinking about using automotive paint primer to cover the bare metal after the old perch is removed and the old rust is sanded off, and use a PRC sealant that is used on aircraft to seal anything from fuel tanks to sheetmatal repairs. Anybody know what is recommended to use or where I can get them?

Interesting, thanks for sharing, glad you were not hurt. How many miles on the car?

It is a problem that affects W210 chassis vehicles. Not the W124 like you have....

This issue is found on the W210, 201, and 124.

Would like to fill in a hole by welding. Found the following Service Precaution: AH00.00-N-0005-01A Measures For Preventing Damage To vehicle Or Component's When Performing Arc Welding Work.

3. In vehicles with airbags the red 12-pin connector/plug-in connection must be disconnected no sooner than two seconds after the battery has been disconnected (risk of unwanted activation).

What plug are they talking about? I've looked and cannot find a 12-pin connector.

The battery MUST be disconnected for any form of electric welding, or you can induce spikes, reverse voltage, AC current into the system = exploding battery, wrecked/damaged modules, etc.

The red 12-pin connector on the SRS/airbag main control module.
Failure to disconnect risks deploying all of the airbags and firing the two front explosive seat belt retractors.
