Painting the old gal! Family disagrees! Need your input...

I have the old girl running so nice, I think she deserves a new coat! I want to paint her black ( right now, she's a seafoma green combo 1991 300E with chrome rims) and then tint the windows, put in new Struts and a pumping stero system and enjoy like she's meant be enjoyed! What are your thoughts out there and what have you all done? I think this car is a piece of ART that needs to be restored and given TLC.

sptt, refrain from changing the color. To do it properly you'll need to repaint the door jambs and inside of the doors, hood and fenders ... a complicated, expensive project requiring the removal of weathestripping, door panels, trim, etc. Simpler to buy another MB automobile in the preferred color.

Agreed, if you are going to paint, you'll need to redo the same color. My suggestion? It's a 20-yr old car; if you're going to spend money, spend it on making it the best driver you can, not the best looker. Put on the struts, tint the windows, put in a banging system, and do whatever else a 20-yr old car needs to become faster, smoother, and tighter. But don't repaint it - wasted money.

....Well, it's so paint faded in on the roof, and trunk maybe I should just have it retouched up with a paint match and have them remove the few dings. Then tint windows, sound system, and try to keep it alive??? Thanks for the input!

Paintjob Update

OK guys...I had my car repainted today at One Day Paint and Auto Body in Santa Ana, Ca. I took the forum's advice and stuck with a color that woud allow me to not have to repaint door jams and what not. They did such a great job for $600.00 bucks that my son wants to trade me his brand new Nissan Frontier truck for the Benz now! No way! I also had the windows tinted and it looks soooo SWEEEETTT!!! I'll post a b4 and after picture ASAP. Couldn't get a good one today with the sun angles. They even fixed all the dents and painted the wiper a flat black. It looks BRAND SPANKIN' NEW from the outside. Now, I'm gonna tackle the seat padding and electronic seat controls. Sunday I'm putting in a new steering damper, struts, fuel accumulator, and shocks. I'm a little pumped up right now can't wait to feel the ride difference.

Here is the newly painted 1991 300E. For $450.00, One Day Paint and Auto Body in Santa Ana did a fantastic job and removed the dents. I've gotten several compliments and comments on it in three days! Great advice on keeping similar color so I wouldn't have to paint the door jams! thanks guys!
