Ah ha - we're getting there - a bit slow but I've got next week end for painting so hopefully there will be some progress.

I'm pretty excited to see your engine swap thread - good luck with that

I see that you've covered the roof? Is there a vinyl roof in your plans?

Vinyl roofs look the part on certain cars.

No - no vinyl roof - I started off thinking oh I'll just do the roof and then I thought oh @%^#%&#& it I'll do the doors and rest of it too...

...that way the paint work will all be to the same standard - I hope it will look good. We'll have to wait and see.

The colour coat seems nice smooth and solid at the moment. But I know from painting wood that undercoats always seem to look better than the top coats!

I must admit I'm a bit nervous - I've been silly enough to post my efforts on the web - I can hardly stop posting them now can I?

Really really slowly - in fact nothing's happened since I asked my last set of questions. I've been busy with other (mostly family) related stuff.

Don't worry I've stuck my neck out far enough now that I have to post the good bad and ugly. Stay tuned - I'm working on working on it!

hope you have the clear on. Waiting will just greatly increase your chance of problems.

You diligently read it all?

If so - well done! It is getting to be quite a long one...

Mini update:-

Rain, rain, rain and more July rain...

April and May were the dry but temperatures were mostly around 15 degrees C - a bit on the cold side for paint.

Painting outside isn't fun quick or particularly clever - paint inside if you can...

Come on August - be a dry warm one without any flies!

What do you have against the "textured surface" technique of painting? I remember laying the last coat of a metallic paint down, stepping back to critique it, tripping over the air hose and triggering the huge garage door switch to "open". Instant dust storm and total matte finish on the car. Smashed my paint gun to the floor, used up 4 years of good words and wasted a 12 pack of some good beer. By wasted, I mean after 4, you aren't drinking for taste.

Oh crap - bad luck...

As for textured surfaces - I think I've proven by now that those are quite easy to come by!

Wow, it's nice to know I'm not the only one who does stuff like that! Thanks.
