I make my own etching solutions for different parts. Mostly I just mix some naval jelly into a bucket of hot water for parts dipping. Works good for cast parts like calipers. Most of the rust converters are the same thing: phosphoric acid. The different products might provide better penetration and ability to seep into seams and hidden areas.
