To paint it black or not

I washed the 300D today after owning it for 2-3 months. I can already sense Matthew cringing.

But I was thinking about painting the grill insert black. Matte or what ever it is I have left over from the last grill I did.

Also, any pics of a w124 like mine with a black grill and anthracite paint would be awesome.

Vote!

Have you considered painting the grill Anthracite? (gloss)

Flat black is more forgiving though.

Have you posted pics of this car? I haven't been on here for a long time, so I might of missed it.

Paint It.

I painted both the 300D and the 240D grills black. the 300 I use a spray can of black trim rattle can spray paint I got for the PPG Auto Paint store. I looks good, but does rock chip, and has the little gray poka-dots all over it. amazing how many little pieces of sand and gravel hit the front of the car.

The 240 I painted it with the POR black, and then covered it with the Chassis black. it really holds up a lot better.

I like the black, it sets off the chrome. leaving the grey plastic bare, it gets chalky over time.

I would do something with those crappy looking black wheels.

I think I may have to get euros for it. Also, half of the grill mounting hardware, screws and clips, are missing from the car. Awesome

Somehow there's something else that stands out with a fresh brand new plastic grille insert that is NOT painted, with new chrome strips.

You have 90% of a monochrome design going there and to me, the chrome grill looks out of place and makes the car look "nose heavy" since it's the only chrome on the whole car. (at least what we see here).

IMHO, you have 2 choices:

1. Paint the shiny part of the grill the same color as the car and paint the inserts flat black to complete the "duo-chrome" look.

2. leave the grill alone and find/paint the rims silver/chrome to echo and tie into the grill.

IMHO the grille should be dark - not black - with the bright chrome strips.

The wheels look neglected / excessive brake dust.

Overall the car is starting to look like a police cruiser.

Brighten something it up!

Or darken it down completely, tint windows and all... then it will look gangsta
