w124 rust spots

Was reading the article in the Star on the W115 chassis and wondered where the the rust areas to check on a W124.

Well...on an estate check the jacking points, rear ARB mounts, rear fixed window frames, the hatch window frame, hatch bottom edge, rear wheel arches, front wings, hard lines under the car where they go through the rubber mountings, windscreen frame, bottom of the 'c' pillars......

If my two are anything to go by!

Seriously, jacking points and wings are bad for rust, and the 'c' pillar/rear window area on estates is a 'feature'

That's UK weather for you, maybe

cheers!

Spring perches, trunk bottom, rear subframe assembly, control arm mounts. Honestly the w124s are VERY well rust-proofed compared to the w126 and w123.

Around the filler door, particularly on the wagons. Too many years of gas fumes eats away at the hot wax protection leaving the metal at the quarter panel wall where it folds onto the filler neck recess.

Also check around the rear hatch piece that hods the license plate lights (no rust in this picture)

Those foto's are the most rust I have ever seen on a w124. I would keep an eye on the jack points and body cladding, if you have it. Great cars otherwise.
