Glasurit Color-Online

Plan is to one day paint a 1986 560SL, which is currently signal red and will probably remain some shade of red.

Can anyone interpret this for me.

There are apparently 4 different paints used, 22, 90, 68, 55, yet when I go to the Glasurit sight I can only find info about the 90 series. Are the others still available and what is the difference.

What does color info 02/03 mean.
What does Options, Variant, Color tool and MPV mean.

On the second page

Under formula options

What does Step, Pb icon and hour glass icon and "VOC" mean

"Step" most likely refers to an instruction, just guessing.

"Pb" means lead.

The hour glass means "wait" time or lack thereof before re-coats.

VOC means, "Volatile Organic Compound", refers to materials in the paint. The stuff you want on the car and not in your lungs.

JMK can fill you in on the details. He's the man when it comes to the paints.

Your faith is great, but since I never worked for BASF I am unfamiliar with the BASF software.

Pb is the chemical symbol for lead. It may be a warning that the paint contains lead, but it may refer to Pb--the blue yellow color axis.

VOC is volitile organic compounds, or the amount of organic material (mostly solvents) that evaporate when the paint dries. It also contains some material from the resins reacting in the paint. Either way, this is the stuff that doesn't stay on the car, and you do not want to breathe it.

Variant probably refers to the color variant from line variation and weathering. A cars color is really a range of color variants matched to a standard. the color on cars is always varying slightly based on multiple factors. Also there are so many components in paint that slight color variance based on normal formulation and manufacturing process variations will affect the color.

Color is very complicated.

I would call BASF and have them help you with the tool. Their software is quite sophisiticated. I would recommend gettting expert help with it.

BASF sorta jacked with Glasurit and its really no better than any other BCCC setup anymore. Spies or Dupont is just as durable as whats now Glasurit
