w210 frame alignment questions

so i had a lil incident where i took my car into a dirt embankment. for the most part it doesnt look too bad underneath the sheetmetal. however the driver side wheel looks pushed back about an inch. the control arm is broke and probably bent too. my main question is can i measure some points on the subframe to check the frame and subframe alignment?

Drop strings with plumb bobs on the ends off of chassis points. Keep the distance to the ends of the plumb bobs identical on each side. Comparison measuring of each side is then is possible. You can find or make substitute plumb bob devices. I used strong magnets to position the strings if there was not attachment points where I wanted them.

You can get as sophisticated as you want with this approach. In my time for example we had no cheap laser devices. Today we have.
Things just get into the way otherwise usually with attempting freehand tape measuring of existing points. Making any form of accuracy basically or using it impossible. Also look for kinks or ripples indicating displacement in metals.

hmm ya thats a good idea. the chassis looks untouched but the subframe took all the blow. i wanna make sure that is not tweeked before i start rebuilding things.

Sorry if I mislead. To me the chassis does include the subframes. Perhaps technically they are not the chassis for all I know. Centre body structure and subframes etc I tend to think as one . Even though sub frames etc can be changed out.
