Yes. I thinned it by half, did several coats. It was too hot when I did my last coat. It looks fine, but will not look like glass

I mixed 1 part yellow to 3 parts white for my 65 Dart, which gives a great light yellow. So far I just painted the trunk and engine bay, but looks fine, and those places are trickier since you can't roll, and hard to get the foam brush in spots without runs. The body is coming up.

As many say, it is all in the prep and final sanding. Even if you spray, you must sand to get the paint mirror smooth. I don't like spraying because of more prep, over-spray, wasted paint, and health concerns. I wouldn't use clear coat. When the paint gets damaged (often in any driver), you can't spot fix clear coat like you can a solid.
Yep, and again, I think I like the idea of roll and tip - I can repaint in the future, repair dings, scratches, etc easily -not such a bad system if you think about it . .

Well I ordered some interlux. I know it is good paint and will level pretty nice. Ordered Beige, I think with a little yellow universal tint I can bring it close to the maple yellow. It may be close already, hope so.

I may have to try this.....

Worked in a small body shop years ago. Many times I was the only guy there while the owners were off looking for cars to do (they refurbished muscle / unique cars for a dealer). I wound up using filler, sanding, more sanding, more sanding, a little more sanding, and plenty wet sanding. Wet sanding puzzled me at first, but the results explained everything. The hard way to an Imron finish.
I witnessed some rather catastrophic painting errors there, done with a paint gun. Wet sanding a little orange peel out of an enamel is nothing compared to sanding out a living room's worth of sagging curtains down the side of a '63 Lincoln.
It looks like this is a rather good idea. I have seen a lot of crummy jobs come out of shops. And since I am doing just about everything else on the car myself....why not?

I apologize in advance for my ignorance, but, what does "tip" mean in the painting world?

Knock it down

When you are tipping, you use a foam brush to lightly knock down the paint. Roll out a small area, and quickly draw the brush over it. Try not to drag a bead of paint with it. This should help with orange peel (if your paint is thinned properly). There are videos on YouTube. Search for "Roll and tip".

Dude, I'm sorry that you had such poor results. Would take a lot of sanding to get that planed out smooth. By then you would likely need another color coat or two.

I will keep the heat issue in mind if I ever try this.
