Respray over water based paint
Hi Folks: I was directed here from the diesel forum regarding a respray of a 98 E300D. I believe the car was mfgd. with water based paint. How do I know for sure, or does it even matter if I'm doing a respray with traditional petrol based paints with VOC's?
Any special precautions? My painter says he will scuff the entire body, primer and repair any rust and nicks, and then spray with a sealer before applying a color coat and multiple clear coats. Car is a metallic silver, and body is in good shape with no dents just a few chips and a few minor rust spots. Any thoughts? |

The clearcoat will be solvent based. The base coat is probably water based. There really isn't any adhesion issues other than the normal prep issues that you need to worry about.
