I just bought a 97 E320 for a great deal with some front right damage. I will need to replace the hood, fender, headlight assembly, probably radiator and maybe bumper cover. I have removed the fender, and what I call the inner fender, or what the fender actually bolts to, is crunched up against the tire. I first need to pull that away from the tire, so I can move the car around easier, but first attempts at this have failed. Any ideas on how to pull this away? Also, what is this section called? I am having trouble finding any info online anywhere. See picture for exact location, it isn't my car but shows the part I am talking about.

Can you get in there with a 5-foot pry bar and lever the metal away from the tire? Put a piece of plate steel between the pry bar and the tire, so you have a firm surface to pry against. The tire is probably already shot anyway.

I will try that, tire is actually still good. I also am going to try a come along to pull that section out..

What are you going to do for repairs to this area?

That dictates if you are going to cut out and weld in or just straighten.

Given the question your question on "how do I pull this out" I'm guessing you don't understand the full scope of this type of repair. You may need a body shop to pull this out.

Also, when repairing a hit car, leaving bolt on parts on the car and roughing things out a bit is good practice. ( as in accepted procedure ) This pulls things into a general shape then parts are removed and final pulls made.
