w123 Hood Alignment

My recent purchase of a 1985 300CD came with a hood that had not been latched down, then flipped up and smashed the windshield. I pulled the hood and straightened out everything that I could find that was bent. I tried to reattach the hood and it's way off. Even sliding it forward as far as possible in the adjustment tracks, it's still overlapping the cowl by more than a half inch. It appears to be even worse now than it was before I pulled the hood, which really has me scratching my head.

Is there another adjustment I am missing?
Would it be better to pull the hood arms? They don't appear to be bent.

You can see in the image just how far off it is.
