Question Paint?

Hello,

I have a 1972 280se 4.5 MB. Now my question
the car has some paint chips and cracks all around. Should I just fill the hole with paint, or should I let the whole car repaint.
the car is white.

thank you.

cK

Sadly, the best approach is to paint the whole car. You will need to get a reputable shop to do this, and it will be expensive, since most of the old paint will have to be removed.

The paint, like mine, is failing -- I've seen cars this vintage with the paint curling up in big sheets as the rust eats away the metal underneath. It has "died" from sunlight and age -- the cracks will soon go all the way down to the metal, and the rust starts, peeling the paint off.

Make sure the shop that does the paint understands that this is not the "new" polyurathane type paint in common use since about 1970 in the US, but the older acrylic enamal used in the 1960s -- it is very important to make sure the primer used is compatible with the older paint.

I will keep you updated on the progress with restoring my brother's 75 300D -- it is currently sanded down to primer and reprimed, ready for final prep and paint.
