92 300D Re-paint...new diesel not av. in CA.

I posted about two weeks ago. I got some excellent ideas. One was to get another car instead of repainting the 300D another color.

I just rebuilt the engine. Nothing was available with comparable work.

New Diesels= Dealer said that they are not allowed to come into California.
There is one way - If they have 7500 miles on it. Can anyone believe this?

Now I am going to re-paint. I am going with the Brilliant Silver code 744.

Does anyone have a better suggestion for a silver?

The bottom panels are going to remain the same darker gray color.

silver is a good colour, looks smart and doesn't show dirt. I'd put some doors on it though, might get cold in winter

According to my chart Brilliant Silver was used from 1990 to 1999. Its predecessor, Astral Silver (735) was used from 1973 to 1991. They seem to me awfully close to each other - and I would think go with the more recent, especially since it's apparently correct for 1992.

I was told Brilliant Silver 744 was a 2005 Color - is this true

I did not know that there were so many versions of Brilliant Silver.

What is the newest version?

Nick, I recommend staying with the original color. Otherwise you're going to have to paint the door jambs, front fender edges, hood edges and trunk opening recesses. Obviously the front and rear windshields must be removed ... an expensive proposition to do the repaint properly.

Have you considered how your seats are going to look with silver? Strikes me as an odd color combination ... doubt that MB offered that combo.
