Unfamiliar paint
Finally, after 8 months, I am getting the 300E back painted this weekend. I had originally asked for Glasurit and he could not get that, so we decided on Sikkens. Now I find out he painted it with RM Diamont because someone told him it was 'the same thing as Glasurit'. His cost on the clear coat was $233 but I only find 3 posts after a search for Diamont. Overlooking the 8 months it took him, did he do me OK on the choice of paint? I might also mention that this is the husband of one of my auditors, and I am getting the 'brother-in-law' deal so I can probably overlook the time involved.

Sounds like you didn't have a written or even firm verbal agreement and therefore don't have much choice under the circumstances. You really shouldn't be painting a 88 300E with Glasurit anyway - too expensive with no real quality advantage over other premium quality paints. I wouldn't seek out Glasurit unless it was a show car or Gullwing or something like that - where a buyer might care.

In searching here,it seems paint is one of those topics which bring out the passion in owners. What else is comprable at a more attractive pricing point?
And is Diamont among them? |

What is the cost difference per qt between Glasurite and Others. Is it worth considering anything less with all the labor involved.

My paint guy got charged: 2qts base $179, and a gallon of clear $230 for the Diamont. I seriously doubt that Glasurit can cost a lot more than this. If you can get the real thing, may as well go for it.
This stuff seems to take a few days to completely cure. I got high in my garage just trying to install the euro headlights. |

Glasurit costs a lot more than that - not because it's good but because Glasurit has no interest in selling you paint. |
