Rust repair panels
 

I have just discovered that the rust behind my rear wheel is worse than I originally thought. I would like to cut out the rust and weld in a new panel. Is there any manufacturer that makes quality patch panels for the 123 chassis, or do I need to hit up a junk yard? Thanks. -Bryan

I have a little bit of rust in that same area. it needs to be treated before it gets worse.. so i don't have to hack up a w123

Treat that rust before it gets worse. The best stuff to use, I would consider it better than POR-15 due to its superior adhesion and little prep requirements(enabling you to truly 'paint over rust' in hard to reach rusty areas like the inside of the front engine bay drains) is Rust Bullet. That stuff is pretty good but has a short shelf life after you open it. One drawback is it's silver in color which makes it stick out like a turd in a punchbowl. Have to use some body colored spray paint over it but otherwise the stuff is tough. My repair is 2 years old and doesn't show the slightest hint of getting worse.

Thanks, I'll take a look at those sources. The damage is only about 2 inches by 4 inches. I don't think it will be too hard to cut out the rust and weld in a new panel. (Famous last words....:rolleyes: )

TheDon- what ever you do don't try to just cover the damage with bondo. It looks like my car just had a minor problem that somebody didn't fix properly.

For sure don't do that. Bondo absorbs moisture, and basically sucks all the way around.

theDon- I looked around **************.com and couldn't find any mention of the car you were talking about. Can you post a link?

All of the other sources seem to only have the full quarter panel...and the large price that comes with it. I would rather use factory steel anyway. Thanks for all the help.

EDIT: Nevermind...I found it.

Call these folks- they don't list any W123 parts but they have them. I got a patch panel that covers the area directly under the chrome strip on the rear quarter panel from the door frame to the seam by the taillight. I think they have some smaller ones as well.
