Why does a 45 yr older go down to his garage to stare at his new Welder at night?

Why does a 45 yr older go down to his garage to stare at his new Welder at night? Does anyone else here get a kid like thrill at owning a new Tool at age 45?

This is my new Toy, when I can't sleep, I go down to the garage at 2 in the morning and drink milk and stare at it. I may have even talked to it once or twice, and run my hand over its cold shiney smooth sheet metal....I always wanted to learn to weld, but the kids always needed something, first it was computers, then clothes, then tuition....so I would past by them wistfully and look a their $500 price tags and keep on going. I had enough on my hands to keep me going, like job stress and teenager trouble..
Well I finally own one. I don't feel so guilty about it, I got a discount of almost $200 because Harbor Freight was dropping the Hobart Line, after monkeying with the budget and returning my car stereo, I went and got it..Every other tool I owned has paid for itself, like my Robinaire Vacuum Pump, my Table Saw, my Miter Saw and now, I hope my welder..
Except now I won't go to the Garage to stare at it because I am going to move it inside to my Daughter's empty room...fitting, its my new kid...

Now that, everyone, is love in the deepest sense. I used to do the same thing when I got a new pair of shoes. I'd sleep with them on my pillow right next to my head. I imagine I'd do the same with a new toy like that.

..
It's the same reason a 58 year old kid goes out and sits on his bike

I always look out the front window of the house at my SD before I officially head to my bed for sleep, sometimes I do it several times throughout the evening, and I always do it during the day... One of the great things about my job at school is that I leave at 2am, drive my car home, and then go to bed within 15 mins of getting home ususally, like tonight. So driving it is pretty much the last thing of the day that I do....

Thumbs up

I went and sat in the SDL when it sat for about twelve weeks a while back. I just missed driving it. Now with new shocks, oh my!

We do things that make us feel better. Cars and tools haunt my dreams more than money, women, and parties.

I'm pretty sure , at least, that I act like an Adult or do a good resemblance of one. I stuck my Prize 95 SAAB 9000 Turbo (paid 2K for it, but its in great shape) in the garage last week and I sat in it that night and though I didnt go VROOM VROOM, it brought back a lot of memories when I was a kid and read Road and Track and dream of sports cars and my brother would laugh and say "You'll never own one of them!!!"

I didn't look at this picture before I posted it. I only went by the file name. I built this cart when I first got my Handler 180. Also I was just moving into my "New" shop (actually a haybarn converted to a shop poor boy style.)

Here's the back view and in this picture you can see even more of my junkie, poorboy shop. If you look hard enough you will find TWO shop buddies.

Have a great day,

Have a great day,
I trust those cats are better behaved than my shop buddy, our Golden retriever, Buddy. A few years ago, he got his tail in a pan of oil drained from the SD, then went wagging it all over the house

So I guess you found the cat but not the dog. The dog is easy to find in the picture, but the cat is camouflaged well. Double click on the thumbnail to get a bigger view.

I've never had a problem with them like you describe. The cat doesn't come in the house and the dog stays away from mischief out there for the most part.

Have a great day,
