W123 Spring rust repair...calling those with parts cars
1 Attachment(s)
Spring is nearly here and I would like to fix the large hole in my trunk. I have posted on the parts forum with no luck so I thought I would try here. I would like to do this repair with actual Mercedes sheet metal rather than bend my own panel out of sheet metal. Ideally I will replace the hole corner. I plan to use a wire feed welder to do the repair. If any of you have a parts car that is rust free in this area send me a PM. Thank you. –Bryan

fiberglass
Clean area, treat bare metal and use fiberglass cloth and resin.

Thanks, but I would like to weld in a metal patch.

the best metal to use.
I have found very few cars with that area good.
My simple answer is a bent fender, hood or trunk deck lid = identical metal. Have a great day. |
I'd weld in some sheet metal from the scrap yard. MIG welder, grind down the welds, prime and paint. Eastwood sells some of the oddball tools to help with jobs like this one. Cut out all the rust.

That's the plan :D. I have a MIG welder and grinder. The tough part seems to be finding the patch panel. I may have to try and make my own, but that is a fairly complex shape.

I'd consider making one up from a few different pieces on clean sheet steel. Eastwood sells a few tools to help with beating the metal to rounded shapes. Make the piece from cardboard first taping the pieces together to achieve the desired shape. Then cut the metal out on a bandsaw or with a Bosch jigsaw and MIG it together. Then attach the piece to the cancer victim.

A sand bag and hammers can do wonders.

Who has the most rust and still drives http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/bodywork-repair-paint-tools-tips-tricks/86054-who-has-most-rust-still-drives.html |
Well I am getting fairly desperate so that is what it may come to. I think it will look better if I can find a repair panel rather than make my own. I can weld but I’m not much of a body repair guy. :)
