boardmonger- i certainly will be puttin those headlight doors on myself!

Okrist- NICE car... looks like you keep it nice and clean! I had my wheels repainted when the doors were repaired. Theres NO way they can look as nice without new paint. Brake dust kills.

Now THAT would be my Holy Grail of MB's!! Either in 116 or 123. Preferably in a manual 240D.......
Actually I might prefer the lighter green (pastachio?), as lighter colors are are are so much more forgiving. I've had my black Chevy PU for 27 years, and will never ever own a black vehicle again. I would even say no to a black 240 with manual tranny! That should tell you something......

I would go with a light color, because they are easier to keep clean, and swirl marks are less apparent.

I like dark color vehicles just as much as the next guy, but from my expierence they are harder to keep clean, plus you can see every little ding and dent.

I agree 100% in that darker colors will show every little imperfection... Meguiars NXT does a great job of reducing light swirl marks, which I use religiously on all of my cars. Normally little dings dont bother me too much as long as there arent many of them.. but on my orient red 300D it drove me CRAZY!!!! I lived in SF for a couple of years, where there is NO WAY to avoid tight parking spots from time to time. Luckily theres the magic of Dent-Pro at our fingertips.... they removed the few dings I had and the car is back to being straight as an arrow.

Considering the trade offs, if you have the time to care for a darker color- it is well worth it if you love the color and like dramatic reflections and deep gloss. keeping the car polished, and NXT waxed will keep it looking VERY nice.

That said, of the lighter colors my favorite is the Manilla beige. Buttery, creamy, clean and sharp looking. A clean shiny glossy Manilla Beige with a Black interior would be killer. Add dark brown pin-stripes. maybe dark brown piping to the seats... YUM. I like contrast.

Great pictures, everyone, I'm envious

The silver I have is a great color for a Corvette or a SUV. The trouble is today, Silver is a generic color.
The Dark Navy Blue and Maroon match the car's personality. Its kind of like wearing your Dad's old wool overcoat that was well made in 85 and is very tasteful in its cut and fit and quality in 2005 to a Party vice wearing a Goretex jacket. People will look at you and know you are special.
In my wildest dreams i have considered selling my SAAB to paint my 300D ( daughter in college)

I have a Baby Blue '77 240D. I like the color.... not as wild with the blue interior but I only paid $500.00 for it 11 years ago with only 132,000 mi on it. The body is cherry. The guy thought the auto trans was going out. NOT SO
I like the old solid colors because they didn't have clear coats to worry about. If they got oxidized, you could rub them out without worring.

I think the only thing not like your dream Manila Beige 123 is the black interior. I also have the brown pinstripes

Some favorites:

Dark/midnight Blue (dark)
China Blue or Diamond Blue (light)
Petrol Green (dark)
Thistle Green (light)
Manila Beige (dark)
Light Ivory (light)
Orient Red

Can you guess the colors?

Below: manila beige, orient red and thistle green

Left to right: thistle green, light ivory, orient red, manila beige, black (repaint), petrol green

I've only seen the color on a MB once, so I'm not sure if it was stock or a repaint, but I've seen a Navy blue color that was just beautiful. It glowed. It made me think of a Disney cartoon car for some reason. Hard to explain, but it looked wet and plastic. It was a bright, lighter than Navy maybe, but still deep blue. I'd like to stick with an original MB paint, but that's a color I would love to have on a 300D.

Some guys dream about fast women, other guys dream about the real estate, other guys dream about castles in the mountains and other guys dream about the Caribbean, a white beach, a bottle of gin and what happens when the fast women... but a recurrent dream of mine is to shake the bucks together to get rid of the Silver paint job on my 85 300D.

To me the only color for a Classic 300D is Dark Navy Blue (like in a Navy Blazer)or Maroon. That'll get you second looks anytime!
If anyone has got pictures of their 300D in this color or a better CLASSIC color, please post them to make me salivate.
To my mind Classic cars are almost antiques, collectors there will look for original colour and interior scheme.

Go with the colour specified on the Vin plate, and, if you can afford it, be prepared to spend lots to get the best propfessional finish.

My car is pajettrot (cabernet red, 587). I'm not sure if I've seen an orient red car or not. How different is it from pajettrot? People seem to like it more in general.

I also have to say I like that petrol green color a lot. Don't believe I've seen it in real life yet, though.

I have to agree with those who said all the dings really show up on a dark car. I never knew how many tiny dings I had until I washed it and waxed it. It can drive you crazy if you think about it!
