Best color for a W123 300D Classic paint job?...

Tonight I went outside to start her up and get a whiff of diesel fuel. She's gutted for welding right now and sitting tireless on jackstands, but I heard that sweat diesel, smelled the fuel, and the romance came back again.
Some guys dream about fast women, other guys dream about the real estate, other guys dream about castles in the mountains and other guys dream about the Caribbean, a white beach, a bottle of gin and what happens when the fast women... but a recurrent dream of mine is to shake the bucks together to get rid of the Silver paint job on my 85 300D.

To me the only color for a Classic 300D is Dark Navy Blue (like in a Navy Blazer)or Maroon. That'll get you second looks anytime!
If anyone has got pictures of their 300D in this color or a better CLASSIC color, please post them to make me salivate.

I'd go with the red/maroon with tan interior myself. Or maybe black interior.

I too dig the maroon color and the navy blue. But I think I like the maroon better. I would love to repaint mine maroon, but maroon with blue interior would look horrid.

Best Color

My 81 240D is Ivory. "Hellelfenbein" to use the original terminology. And I do like the color but I have to agree that darker colors are nicer for these cars. In fact I think that most older Benz's look better with darker colors. And I do think that midnight blue or burgundy is a good color for them. Thoug I personally also like a kind of forest green that was popular in Germany but doesn't seem to have made it outside the fatherland very much. Dont even know what it's called but it's very distinctive and Germanic in it's way.

- Peter.

The SDL is painted 904 blue, personaly I think that is just about the best color for a MB of this vintage. Although you can't go wrong with black or silver.

Veloce300D-T has an AWESOME looking Orient Red he just had redone.

I'm considering repainting mine the same color (my car is Orient Red OE, paint code 501)

or I was thinking about making it Metallic Red. Like Cabernet Red 587

The blue you're talking about
Deep Blue/Surfblau 900
or
Dark Blue/dunkelblau 904

I like Mocha

I dunno if this is a classic color though. This car has been white and red. I know because I've done a little sanding and touch up. OK, a lot of touch up!

I recently purchased a maroon 85 300D with 129,000 miles. I agree that the dark colors look very rich....but before you make the plunge on a color change..remember lighter colors look cleaner, they don't show the dust like a dark color which means they don't need to be washed as often. Lighter colors are cooler..This is a big deal in Arizona where I live...and finally departing from the original color is always a challenge...you need to paint more than outside to get a good looking job...I would try to look at a recently painted silver just be sure before you make the plunge! Good Luck

Well I have to vote for red/maroon with tan interior also. Mine was beige on tan and is now red on tan, which is much classier.
