Roof repair
All,
I have a 73 Lincoln Continental. I have not done any bodyuwork since High School, but I am pretty good with my hands. As you can see from the pics, my car is a bit rusted out. My biggest issue is the roof. In these pics you can see several holes on the sides of the roof. I am thinking Ill sand to bare metal #1, then drop the headliner and coat it from the inside with POR15 and then use fiberglass the fill in the holes. I have never welded before but I do have access to a guy who will weld it for $65 an hour. He also STRONGLY EMPHASIZED that he cannot weld rust so I have to make sure whatever I get him to weld is really clear of all rust. But my main problem is that this car has a vinyl top and the roof rusted through beneath it. The worse part is the area surrounding the rear window frame on the sides (For the bottom 12 inches theres no roof at all) Is there anyone out there that has experience repairing rusted through roofs? I am not looking for someone to do it, I am looking for suggestions I may not have heard of before (Like the rivet thing with the floorboards, I never heard of that before. Actually I was wondering if that would work on my roof lol) bunyan p.s. Here are some more pictures. Ill post more pics later today |
