W126 hood latches won't latch
 

I hope this is the correct forum. If not please bump it to the correct one. I recentley purchased an '83 300SD whose hood won't latch. The saftey latches operate correctly but the main latches don't. The latch release cables are free and the latch release handle operates smoothly. The latch plates rotate but will not lock in place. Any suggestions or help is appreciated.

Are you sure the cable is running free inside the tube ? If not, it could be keeping the latches from closing. And make sure the handle is seating all the way.

Pete- thanks for your response. I apologize for the slow reply. I've checked the hood release handle and the cables are running free. The right side latch is now working but not the left side. I was able to free up the right side by spraying it with brake cleaner then some lube. I think I'll try and dissamble the left side this next weekend.
