Another Safelite Holiday Sale
I didn't take advantage of their Thanksgiving sale where the quote for a new windshield was 179.95, and I'm glad I didn't. I just got another quote and the price today is 159.95. :) I don't think it can get much cheaper than that.
Does anyone know what kind of glass they use, or if there is anything I need to look out for during the install? |
Safelite is an old Wichita, Kansas company which is now owned by Belron. The glass is domestically produced (Yeah USA) in Enfield, NC. Many years ago when I lived in Wichita several times a year they would have tech school for installers. You could get any windshield installed for $59.

Thanks for reminding me. One of my nabors has a safelite truck but I can never seem to catch him. Scheduled for tomorrow @ $225(including molding etc, I already have the gasket).
Cant wait. |
I just ran a quote with them for the windshield on my 1981 300D...$272.95 regularly $424.09.
|
If you're replacing it because it's cracked, your insurance might pick up the tab -- at least here in FL, you're entitled to 1 windshield replacement per year at no charge to you, and without increasing your premiums, because it's a safety-related item. (The windshield has to be cracked though.)
I guess at the replacement company's option they could repair it instead of replace, but either way. |
The price for my '85 300DT came up as $185.95 with molding being $72.95 extra.
Does anybody know whether this includes the gasket? (My guess is no. Or is "molding" the gasket?) And if the gasket is included is it good quality or should I get one through a dealer? Safelite Regular Price: $424.09 View Detail 'Tis the Seasons Savings: 56% Off Your Price: $185.95 (includes labor, before tax) Your vehicle may require the installation of moldings and accessories at an additional cost of $72.95. |
It does. I suggest purchasing the gasket ahead of time. They called saying they were unable to find it this AM. Good thing I had one! (They also mentioned this is the worst kind for them to do so they might just have been trying to get out of it).
|
I had mine done during the Thanksgiving sale and they don't like doing them. They brought a new moulding but re-used the old one which looked fine to me. They did say that replacing the moulding would require taking it into the shop rather than having it done at my house.
|
Dangit. They broke the windshield in the last bit. literally last piece end of the molding. They are coming out monday to redo. In the meantime it looks AWESOME.
|
Last Thursday I found a 2-3 inch crack in my driver's windshield, it has grown to about a foot or so, dagnabbit, it was only 1 year old!! BUt man what a difference a new windshield makes!!

I had my new windshield + gasket installed last Dec 20th. They did it in two hours, the glass was good but the lower right corner has a marking for the glass so I can't install the new windshield sticker (for kicks) that has the Daimler script on it. I'll try installing it above that mark :D
$190 for labor + glass (already w/ tax) $120 for OE MB gasket Pics below :) |
Just had it done. They re-used the moulding. It looks good. $159.95 plus tax.
|
Came out and redid it today. Kinda ate up the new gasket but the total price was ~$189.
I can see! said the blind man. |
I got mine replaced by my insurance a few weeks ago because a rock flew off a semi while I was driving home from the u-pick yard (of all places! :D) and smashed it pretty good. My old windshield was super pitted and horrid...new one is so clear!!! Cost: $100 deductible. :D ;) The total was $368! (268 to insurance!) Performed by Safelite.
I went to the dealer and got my new white Daimler signature sticker last week, I'll put it on today probably. :D ;) |
