Just a tiny bit of rust
My '91 SE, flawless in almost all respects, is getting a very small amount of rust:
1. Along the top of the firewall under the rubber molding, just behind the battery, where the acid fumes got it I suppose. 2. On the thin little tabs of metal that position the door-bottom weather strip. 3. Under the roof drip molding above the right door. These are pretty minor, just bubbling the paint in a few dime-size places. I live in Texas, and it's pretty dry. can I slow these spots to a crawl with a relatively easy chemical application? I'm just not ready for the full grind, sand, prep, POR15, etc; I don't think. And I don't know how I'd get to the little spot on the roof under the gutter without careful removal of the gutter, and maybe the sunroof/headliner? When I was in college, we sprayed gas field pipe and equipment with WD40about once a month, and it stopped rust pretty well. Is there something I could use to slow the Evil Death until I get ready to tackle the project in earnest? Tks, DG |

Just scratch it down to bare metal, and brush some etch primer, then some paint on the areas. Realize though that unless you get to the root of the problem, the rust will creep back in pretty short order.
