w123 experts please advise rust issue....update w/ ?????s
Update: I took the car for pre purchase inspection -----shop rated car 8-9/10. the expert body shop said they fix jack point for 800.00
they said they would cut the piece out and weld in a new piece and undercoat the new piece. Has anyone had experience with this or know that this solves the problem. thanks for reading. i went to look at a '85 300d w/ 114000 nice paint and interior with typical fade of palimino in a few spots. the dash has no cracks and everything works including antenna and ac. Now, here's the bad............... the front jack points are rusty.......... in the hole only on the driver side but on the passenger side the rust is worse in the hole and around the hole (actually ate quarter sized hole ) on side of jack point with paint flaking off. the back jack point holes are fine as well as the flat pad just next to the jack point. |

Personally, I would never buy a W123 with jack hole rust. It is just the tip of the iceberg and I don't believe any body shop can stop that kind of rust for very long for that kind of money.
However, you neglected to state your location. If you are in the rustbelt, you may have a higher tolerance for rust than I do down here in Florida.
