Angle grinder wheel choice - type 1 vs. type 27
Gents,
A little off topic - but I am getting ready to use my new 4.5" Dewalt angle grinder for the first time on my upcoming rocker repair. I have here some type 27 depressed center cut off wheels. I also see on the store shelf I can get Type 1 straight wheels. Is there any application difference? The manual says to use type 1 wheels for cut off operations, but I dont understand what is wrong with type 27. I love Dewalt tools, but this manual is very sparse for such a dangerous tool. Can someone shed some light on when to use a type 27 cut off wheel, and when to use a type 1 cut off wheel? Many thanks, dd |
Well I used the Type 27 depressed center wheels, and they work fine. I can find nowhere one the internet or in the manual that says not to use use type 27's.
It seems with type 1 wheels you need to use a different 'type 1' guard, per the dewalt manual. However, I cant find how to purchase this guard. I cant find any reference to this guard anywhere. Bottom line is I cant see anything unsafe about using the Type 27 wheels. My the power of an angle grinder is awesome compared to my trusty dremel. Definitely the most dangerous tool I now own.... dd |
